The Chicago Cubs seek to end their six-game losing streak when they start a four-game series against the San Diego Padres on Monday at Wrigley Field.
The Cubs’ series against the Padres will be the start of a seven-game homestand that features the reigning World Series champion Atlanta Braves at the end of the week.
The North Siders (23-36) have lost six straight and seven of their past eight. The Cubs are coming off a series sweep at the hands of the New York Yankees. Chicago fell 2-1 in 13 innings in their first game against former Cub Anthony Rizzo then were beat up 8-0 and 18-4.
The Padres (37-24) had their winning streak end at four games with a series split at home against the Colorado Rockies. San Diego won the first two games, 9-0 and 2-1 in 10 innings, then dropped the next two, 6-2 and 4-2. The Padres and former Cubs ace Yu Darvish are third in the NL behind the New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers.
