Caleb Kilian to Start for Cubs Tonight Against Padres

The right-hander showed signs of ace-type stuff in his debut on June 4.

On Tuesday night, Chicago Cubs manager David Ross announced that right-handed pitcher Caleb Kilian will get the start for Wednesday night’s matchup against the San Diego Padres.

The Cubs are in the midst of an eight-game losing streak, including a 12-5 loss against the Padres last night in which the bullpen gave up 11 earned runs. The team is desperate for arms that can produce quality innings, as well as take the load off a pitching staff that has been struggling as of late. Hopefully, Kilian can be the shot in the arm the Cubs need.

Kilian made his debut on June 4 against the St. Louis Cardinals and showed signs of ace-type stuff. In five innings, the righty had six strikeouts and allowed three earned runs, three hits, and two walks. He also retired the first nine batters of the game.

With Caleb Kilian back on the Major League roster, the Cubs will have to send someone back down. The club has yet to announce a corresponding roster move.

The Chicago Cubs have two more games left in their series with the Padres before hosting the Atlanta Braves in a three-game weekend series beginning Friday afternoon.
