Hold up, what? Chicago White Sox closer Liam Hendriks had some interesting (to say the least) comments about his forearm injury. Speaking with Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times, Hendriks said he has pitched with a UCL tear since 2008.

The White Sox right-hander is currently on the 15-day injured list due to a right forearm strain. Of course, hearing the word “forearm” associated with pitcher injuries typically sets off Tommy John alarms.

But Hendriks said he is not concerned about the injury.

“I’ve had a tear in my UCL since ’08. That’s been there, that’s been manageable, I’ve been able to deal with it,” Hendriks told Van Schouwen. “But over the course of this year, my elbow has been inflamed a little bit more than usual…There’s a slight forearm strain in there so we’re taking care of that.”

White Sox general manager Rick Hahn spoke on Hendriks’ injury Tuesday and indicated a preliminary timeline of three weeks. The fiery Australian agreed with that sentiment and even gave himself a targeted return date.

“It’s a mild strain. Hopefully get back out there in they say three weeks and I’m targeting July 1.”

If Hendriks’ synopsis is accurate, it would constitute a best-case scenario for the Chicago White Sox. A taxed bullpen has seen several arms rotate in and out as of late. Getting their big-money closer back before the All-Star break would be a rare positive injury development this season.
