The San Antonio Spurs selected Blake Wesley of Notre Dame with the No. 25th overall pick in the first round of the NBA Draft on Thursday at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
The 6-foot-4 combo guard averaged 14.4 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.4 assists as a freshman at Notre Dame. The South Bend, Indiana native received All-ACC second and rookie team honors. He will have a three-year contract worth more than $6 million, including the first two years guaranteed.
Wesley is the 21st Notre Dame player selected in the first round of the NBA Draft. He is the first Irish player taken in the first round since Jerian Grant went No. 19 overall to the Washington Wizards in 2015.
Blake Wesley wasn’t the only one with Notre Dame ties taken in the first round. The Detroit Pistons selected Jaden Ivey, the son of Irish women’s basketball coach Niele Ivey, with the fifth overall pick. The Pistons’ pick came one spot ahead of Central Division rival Indiana.
