The Chicago Bears recently signed linebacker, Matt Adams, to a one-year deal. But his time in Chicago is off to a rough start. According to TMZ, Adams was arrested on Thursday for possession of a firearm.
TMZ reports that police confronted Adams surrounding a Jeep that was reported stolen. Adams claimed he bought the vehicle but when the police searched it, they found a loaded weapon and an extended magazine.
Adams had a permit but apparently, it wasn’t issued by the state of Illinois. Police arrested him for unlawful use of a weapon and cited him for having metal-piercing rounds in his possession. TMZ also reports that the police still have Matt Adams in custody and he’s expected in court in August.
Matt Adams With The Chicago Bears
The Chicago Bears signed Matt Adams in April of this year to a one-year deal. Adams, who spent his entire career with current Bears head coach Matt Eberflus, was a depth signing for Chicago.
The 26-year-old linebacker only played the majority of his snaps on special teams. But he was an important piece of the Indianapolis Colts’ special teams unit.
This arrest marks the second Chicago Bears player, recently signed this offseason, to be in trouble with the law. Byron Pringle was also arrested back in April.
