Notre Dame freshman running back Jadarian Price will miss the 2022 season after he had surgery Friday to repair a ruptured Achilles tendon this week, the program announced.

Price, a four-star prospect from Texas, impressed Irish offensive coordinator Tommy Rees and his staff this offseason. Price is the second running back to go down with an injury after Logan Diggs (shoulder) left the Blue-Gold Game. Diggs, however, is expected to return by midseason.

Notre Dame first-year running backs coach Deland McCullough will have Chris Tyree, Audric Estime, and freshman Gi’Bran Payne to work with. Tyree is the top option after rushing for 222 yards on 56 carries last season. Estime had only seven carries for 60 yards – all in a 55-0 win over Georgia Tech.

The trio will look to replace Kyren Williams, who was selected in the fifth round of the NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Rams. Williams recorded back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons before he opted out of the Fiesta Bowl.

Notre Dame begins training camp Aug. 5.
