White Sox Offense Erupts for 11 Runs to Even Series With Angels

A pair of 5-run innings powered the White Sox past the Angels on Tuesday night.

The Chicago White Sox broke out the bats in Los Angeles Tuesday night, shelling the Angels for 11 runs. The 17-hit attack produced two five-run innings. It was an offensive outburst that we know the South Siders are capable of but produce too infrequently.

Dia De Cueto

First things first, Johnny Cueto continued his stellar season with another quality start. The veteran seemed a bit uncomfortable on the mound early on.

“I think I felt my body, like, dying,” Cueto said.

In a shaky third inning, he surrendered three solo home runs to Mike Trout, Shohei Ohtani, and Andrew Velazquez. But Cueto limited the damage to that frame and only allowed a walk and a hit in his final three innings. Overall, the right-hander tossed six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits and one walk while fanning five.

Joe Kelly, Matt Foster, and Jose Ruiz recorded the final nine outs, combining to allow just one run on two hits while striking out four.

Offense Breaks Out

Luis Robert and Josh Harrison hit two-run homers in the White Sox’s five-run fifth inning to erase a 3-0 deficit. Seven Sox batters had multi-hit games. Robert’s 448-foot blast was the highlight of the barrage against the Angels’ perpetually bad pitching.

The Pale Hose sent 11 men to the plate in a five-run seventh inning. Jose Abreu and Yoan Moncada each had RBI doubles.

Moncada went 2-for-5 with two RBIs in his return from the injured list.

Mike Trout signaled to the Angels’ dugout that Elvis Peguero was tipping his pitches while he allowed four runs on two hits and two walks.

Tim Anderson, Luis Robert, and Jose Abreu each collected three hits.
