The Chicago Blackhawks do not have a first-round selection for the 2022 NHL Draft, which begins Thursday at the Bell Centre in Montreal.
The Blackhawks sent their first-round pick in this year’s draft to the Blue Jackets to acquire defenseman Seth Jones last July. Chicago will not have a first-round pick for the first time since 2016, when it sent its first-round pick to the Winnipeg Jets to re-acquire forward Andrew Ladd.
It will be the first in-person draft since 2019 after two years of the NHL holding its draft virtually because of safety precautions for the COVID-19 pandemic. For the past two years, the television coverage was done from NHL Network studios in Secaucus, New Jersey.
The 2022 NHL Draft will be two days, with the first round at 7 PM Central on Thursday, followed by rounds 2-7 Friday, starting at 10 AM.
The Montreal Canadiens have the No. 1 overall pick and are expected to select a forward, with Shane Wright (OHL Kingston) or Juraj Slafkovsky (Liiga TPS) as the top two options. The New Jersey Devils have the second pick, followed by the Arizona Coyotes, Seattle Kraken, and Philadelphia Flyers to round out the top five.
