The Chicago White Sox just can’t stay healthy. Just as Eloy Jimenez returned to action, the club had yet another lineup mainstay go down. Third baseman Yoan Moncada left Wednesday’s game against the Minnesota Twins after fouling a baseball off of his right foot.
The White Sox said Moncada underwent x-rays that were negative and his status is day-to-day.
“It’s sore,” manager Tony La Russa said regarding Moncada’s injury. “He tried to go that half inning, but it’s sore. Tomorrow will be here in a hurry but we’ll see. He usually wears a foot guard but he didn’t have it on. We’ll see tomorrow.”
Should Yoan Moncada miss an extended period of time, the Chicago White Sox will need to look to both Josh Harrison and Leury Garcia to cover the hot corner. Jake Burger, another potential third base option, went on the 10-day IL with a bone bruise in his right hand prior to the start of Wednesday’s game.
