The Chicago Blackhawks have had a busy Day 1 of the 2022 NHL Draft, and it seems the action isn’t over yet. The Hawks have acquired goaltender Petr Mrazek and the No. 25 overall draft pick in exchange for pick No. 38 in this year’s draft.
This move marks GM Kyle Davidson’s third draft-day trade. The Blackhawks began the fireworks by trading Alex DeBrincat to the Ottawa Senators in exchange for a trio of draft picks. Next, Davidson sent Kirby Dach to the Montreal Canadians for two more draft picks.
The Blackhawks will take on all of Petr Mrazek’s contract, which carries a $3.8 million cap hit and a modified no-trade clause over the next two seasons. Doing so gave the Maple Leafs cap relief and allowed Chicago to acquire yet another first-round pick.
With that pick, the Chicago Blackhawks selected defenseman Sam Rinzel. The Chaska High School (Minnesota) product is NHL Central Scouting’s No. 1 high school prospect in the 2022 NHL Draft.
