The Chicago Blackhawks selected center Aidan Thompson of USHL Lincoln with the No. 90 overall pick in the third round of the 2022 NHL Draft on Friday at Bell Centre in Montreal.
The Blackhawks acquired the pick to select the 20-year-old Thompson from the Calgary Flames in the Nikita Zadorov trade. The pick is the Maple Leafs’ natural third-round pick, who sent it to Calgary.
Aidan Thompson (5-foot-11, 181 pounds) scored 82 points (24 goals, 58 assists) in 57 regular-season games. He added four assists in three playoff games. The Colorado native will head back home to play for the reigning NCAA champion University of Denver under head coach David Carle.
The Chicago Blackhawks entered the second day of the draft with nine selections, including six in rounds two and three. Chicago does not hold a pick in the fourth or fifth rounds, but does have two in the sixth round and one in the seventh.
