The Chicago Blackhawks selected winger Gavin Hayes of the OHL Flint Firebirds with the No. 66 overall pick in the third round of the 2022 NHL Draft.

The Blackhawks acquired the pick to select Hayes from the Montreal Canadiens in the Kirby Dach trade Thursday. Hayes (6-foot-2, 176 pounds) scored 49 points (19 goals, 30 assists) in 65 regular-season games. He added 12 points (five goals, seven assists) in 19 OHL playoff games. Despite his offensive uptick in stats, Gavin Hayes is more known for his defensive play.

The Chicago Blackhawks entered the second day of the draft with nine selections, including six in rounds two and three. Chicago does not hold a pick in the fourth or fifth rounds, but does have two in the sixth round and one in the seventh.
