The Chicago Blackhawks selected Dominic James out of NCAA Minnesota-Duluth with the No. 173 overall pick in the sixth round of the 2022 NHL Draft on Friday at the Bell Centre in Montreal.
The Blackhawks acquired the pick to select James from the Columbus Blue Jackets in the Seth Jones trade last year. James (5-foot-11, 165 pounds) is a left-handed forward who scored 18 points (six goals, 18 assists) in 39 games for the Bulldogs.
James, who turned 20 on July 3, is college teammates with fellow Chicago prospects Wyatt Kaiser and Connor Kelley. Dominic James also was teammates at USHL Lincoln with Aidan Thompson, who was selected in the third round this year by the Blackhawks.
The Chicago Blackhawks entered the second day of the draft with nine selections, including six in rounds two and three. Chicago did not have a pick in the fourth or fifth rounds, but does have two in the sixth round and one in the seventh.
