Another day, another Chicago Blackhawks trade at the 2022 NHL Draft. The Hawks traded this year’s No. 94 overall pick (third round) to the Arizona Coyotes in exchange for the Dallas Stars’ 2023 third-round pick.
Arizona initially acquired the 2023 pick in a trade that sent goaltender Scott Wedgewood to Dallas. Originally a conditional fourth-round pick, the selection became a third-rounder when the Stars made the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The Blackhawks initially acquired the 2022 No. 94 overall pick from the Oilers in the Duncan Keith trade. With that pick, the Coyotes selected defenseman Jeremy Langlois.
The Chicago Blackhawks had plenty of room for flexibility to move the 2022 No. 94 overall pick. Chicago has already made three selections in the third round of this year’s draft:
- No. 66 overall: Gavin Hayes
- No. 81 overall: Samuel Savoie
- No. 90 overall: Aidan Thompson
