The Chicago Steel had four players with ties to the USHL organization selected during the 2022 NHL Draft Friday in Montreal.

Three players are from the Steel’s 2021-22 roster plus forward Quinn Finley, who was part of the Steel’s 2021 Clark Cup championship team.

Quinn Finley (New York Islanders) and forward Nick Moldenhauer (Toronto Maple Leafs) were each selected in the third round. Forward Zam Plante (Pittsburgh Penguins) and defenseman Hunter McDonald (Philadelphia Flyers) were taken in the fifth and sixth rounds, respectively.

Finley played this past season for the Madison Capitols following the USHL disbursement draft. Madison did not compete during the 2020-21 campaign.

Moldenhauer scored 43 points (18 goals, 25 assists) in 41 games. He missed time this season after he was cut in the face by a skate in his first shift of the season.

Plante split time between Hermantown (Minnesota) High School and the Steel. He helped lead Hermantown to a state title. Plante, a Minnesota Duluth commit, scored 10 goals in only 31 USHL games.

McDonald, who was acquired from Omaha in February, had four points (one goal, three assists) in 21 games for the Steel.

Moldenhauer and Plante will play for the Steel next season, while McDonald will start his NCAA career at Northeastern University.
