According to Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Cubs’ second baseman Nick Madrigal has suffered a setback in his rehab game today at Triple-A Iowa.

Madrigal, who suffered a groin injury earlier this season, was in the process of returning from the injured list. After dealing with groin tightness today he will head back to Chicago to be evaluated.

The Cubs’ second baseman has not gotten off to the start that Cubs fans were hoping for. A lot of it can be attributed to injuries. Madrigal missed a decent amount of time the past two seasons. He was on the shelf for the second half of the 2021 season after having to undergo right hamstring surgery. The second baseman also missed a few weeks earlier this season with a back injury.

For the season Nick Madrigal has played in 31 games and is batting .222. In his last 8 games before landing on the IL he went 8 for 29 with a .276 batting average.

Hopefully, this is just a minor setback for Madrigal, and Cubs fans will see the young second basemen back in a Cubs uniform soon.
