The Chicago White Sox announced that Dylan Cease will start on Sunday, the finale of a four-game series against the Minnesota Twins. That start will mark the righty’s first time facing the first-place Twins this season.
Cease has put together a stellar 2022 campaign despite being one of the biggest MLB All-Star Game snubs. He owns 7-4 record, 2.45 ERA, and 1.228 WHIP with 133 strikeouts in 92 innings across 17 starts. The White Sox record as a team is 12-5 in games Cease starts. However, he has not fared well against The Twins in his career. He currently holds a 1-4 record in seven starts with a 7.64 ERA in 33 innings of work.
A New and Improved Cease
But this is a much different Dylan Cease, one that has honed in on his command and developed one of the best sliders in baseball. If any indication exists that he can turn around his performance against Minnesota, look at his numbers against Tampa Bay.
Cease has pitched 10 innings with 13 strikeouts and a 0.87 ERA in two starts against the Rays. The Chicago White Sox can only hope he can duplicate that success against the Twins in the second half of the season. He will likely see Minnesota again in one of the seven remaining head-to-head matchups down the stretch.
