Chicago White Sox catcher Yasmani Grandal is taking the next step in his rehab assignment. As the 33-year-old works toward a return to the Sox, he will head from Double-A Birmingham to Triple-A Charlotte tonight.
Grandal has been sidelined since June 11, when he suffered a leg injury while running to first base. He said the leg discomfort stemmed from lower back spasms, which landed him on the 10-day IL (retroactive to June 12).
The veteran backstop began his rehab assignment at Birmingham on July 6. In three games for the Barons, Grandal went 3-7 with a home run, four RBIs, six walks, and two strikeouts.
Yasmani Grandal targets a return to the Chicago White Sox following MLB’s All-Star break. In the meantime, he will continue his rehab assignment with the Charlotte Knights. The Triple-A club returns home Tuesday to start a six-game set with Lehigh Valley before the All-Star break.
