The Chicago Blackhawks have made their first splashes in 2022 NHL free agency. According to Scott Powers of The Athletic, the Blackhawks have signed forwards Andreas Athanasiou and Max Domi.
The speedy winger spent the last two seasons with the Los Angeles Kings. In 2021-22, Athanasiou scored 17 points (11 goals, six assists) in 28 games. Across his seven-year NHL career, he has 196 points (105 goals, 91 assists) in 378 games.
Athanasiou will join the Blackhawks on a one-year, $3 million deal, according to Pierre LeBrun of TSN and The Athletic.
“Hard-nosed” is the best descriptor for the 27-year-old winger. Domi split time between Columbus and Carolina during the 2021-22 campaign. He posted a combined 39 points (11 goals, 28 assists) in 72 games between the two clubs. Across 501 games in his seven-year NHL career, Domi has 314 points (101 goals, 213 assists)
Domi’s contract with the Chicago Blackhawks is identical to Athanasiou’s — one year at $3 million.
