With NHL free agency scheduled to open in less than a hour, a little bit of Chicago Blackhawks news arose on Wednesday morning. NHL Insider Frank Seravalli reported that the Hawks have received interest for Patrick Kane. However, it appears he isn’t going anywhere for the time being.
Knowing that Kane and the Blackhawks are having constant dialogue is important. If he is going to continue being the face of the franchise through a rebuild, he should be in the loop. His legacy alone has earned that right from the front office brass.
As indicated, Kane wants to see how things play out. If the team is fun this year (albeit still likely bad), maybe Kane takes another contract to stay and see it through. If things are really bad and he still wants to compete, Kane can move on at a later time this season or in free agency next summer. Kane will have his outs if he wants them, but for now he wants to remain in Chicago.
After trading Kane’s buddy Alex DeBrincat, center Kirby Dach, releasing his normal center Dylan Strome, and more moves, fans were curious to hear what Kane had to say. However, despite all the gutting done by GM Kyle Davidson, Kane wants to see it through, at least for now.
