After beginning his rehab stint in Triple-A Iowa last week, Chicago Cubs first baseman Frank Schwindel is healthy and has been activated from the injured list.

The return move sends shortstop Andrelton Simmons to the 10-day IL with a right shoulder strain. Although retroactive to 7/11, Simmons has the same injury as Kyle Hendricks. Hendricks was just shut down for two to three weeks before he can resume throwing, so Simmons may need more than the minimum ten days.

As for Schwindel, he was beginning to turn his season around before the injury. In the 15 games prior to his IL trip, the 30-year-old slashed .278/.328/.407 with two home runs and nine RBI. Although the numbers aren’t jaw dropping, he was a meaningful contributor in that stretch.

For the season, Schwindel is slashing .237/.282/.386 with eight home runs and 33 RBI in 62 games. Despite missing time, his 33 runs driven in is still fourth-best on the Cubs roster.
