The Chicago Fire put the breaks on their abysmal performance all season with a 2-0 victory over Toronto FC at Soldier Field on Wednesday night.
Columbian striker Jhon Duran scored a brace for the home side in the fourth and 16th minutes, respectively, in front of 10,450 fans on the lakefront.
Duran earned the Man of the Match honors for his two-goal performance.
The 4-3-2-1 system adopted by head coach Ezra Hendrickson suited his team in the shutout performance. The Fire only allowed five Toronto shots with four of them on goal.
Gabriel Slonina turned away all of the visitors’ attempts to earn his eighth clean sheet of the season. With that mark, he is now tied for second in MLS.
The Chicago Fire will look to build on Wednesday’s victory when they host Seattle Sounders FC on July 16.
