Chicago White Sox third baseman Jake Burger is taking a step toward returning from a hand injury. Burger will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Charlotte Friday night, the team announced.
The righty slugger last appeared in a White Sox game on July 5. The next day, Burger landed on the 10-day injured list due to a bruised right hand. That ailment has caused him to miss the team’s last 10 games during a crucial stretch.
In 51 games this season, Burger is slashing .250/.302/.458 with eight home runs and 26 RBIs across 183 plate appearances. Despite a stint in the minors and a hand injury, the 25-year-old ranks fourth among White Sox hitters in home runs.
Now, Jake Burger will get back into action as he works toward a post-All-Star break return to the Chicago White Sox. He will join catcher Yasmani Grandal, who is also rehabbing with the Charlotte Knights, for the Triple-A squad’s final three games before the break.
UPDATE – 7/15/22, 2:40 PM CT: The White Sox announced that Jake Burger’s rehab assignment is on hold due to an illness.
