It’s not often that I write about the UFC. For this fight, I have to get some words down here. It was just announced that a matchup between Nate Diaz and Khamzat Chimaev has been verbally agreed upon. This fight will reportedly headline UFC 279 on September 10, 2022. This is absolutely insane!
Chimaev is coming off of the biggest win of his career. Back in April, he beat No. 2-ranked Welterweight Gilbert Burns in an absolute slugfest. Entering that fight, Chimaev was ranked No. 11 in the UFC. This guy has superstar written all over him as he has won every fight in his career. He currently holds an 11-0 record.
Many thought Chimaev would sit out and wait for the winner of Kamaru Usman vs. Leon Edwards. Whoever wins that fight will be the Welterweight Champion. But it seems Chimaev isn’t content sitting and will take any fight offered to him to prove his dominance.
However, this next test might not be as easy as he may think. Enter: Nate Diaz. Diaz has long been a fan favorite in the UFC. He won The Ulitmate Fighter Season Five back in 2007. Diaz may have never won a title, but he has been in many high-profile fights.
Nate Diaz is coming off of two straight losses. Jorge Masvidal beat him back in 2019 for the “BMF” title due to a doctor stoppage. He then lost a decision to Leon Edwards. Though, he almost finished Edwards in the last round of that fight. Diaz and the UFC are currently at odds. Diaz has been vocal about wanting to fight or be released from his contract. This is the last fight on Nate Diaz’s current contract.
