The upcoming Welcome to Wrexham documentary series seems primed to pull at the heart strings.

In November 2020, actors Rob McElhenney (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) and Ryan Reynolds (Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place) made international sports news when their bid to acquire Wrexham AFC was accepted. They set out with a simple goal – to make Wrexham a “global force.” While the pair are new to world of international football, they are pretty darn familiar with success. Ryan Reynolds is an A-list movie star and Rob McElhenney has created two hit TV shows. Eventually, news broke that they intended to document and share their experiences in both acquiring the club and the ongoing operations of the club.

The new documentary series, Welcome to Wrexham, premieres on August 24, 2022 on FX on Hulu. After watching the trailer, excitement for the docu-series is at an all-time high. We get to see shots of the new owners interacting with fans and clips of them touring the facilities. The trailer’s audio cuts in and out of interview clips and Elvis Presley’s ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love.’ The use of the lyrics “only fools rush in” while showing shots of the Reynolds and McElhenney was chef’s kiss.

The emotion of the trailer continues to build as the song continues to play behind different budding storylines the show will cover. It all culminates with crowd singing the hook to the very same song in the stands. As they hit the word “you,” the original audio joins back in. It’s neigh impossible to fight off the goose pimples.
