When the Chicago Bears offensive line was in a pinch head into the 2021 season, Jason Peters was brought in to provide an experienced body up front. He appeared in 15 games and got to see then-rookie quarterback Justin Fields firsthand. Peters recently made a guest appearance on Sirus XM NFL Radio and had only positive things to say about his former teammate.

Through his observations, Peters said Fields got better with each game he played. “Once he gets the offensive line set, that guy is going to be special. He can throw, he can run, he can make all the plays he needs to make,” Peters continued.

That’s some serious praise from a vet that has a Super Bowl ring to his name. Jason Peters knows that a quarterback is only good as his offensive line. Fields had very little time in the pocket all of last season and threw 10 interceptions as a result. Going forward, his protection unit should improve under a new offensive scheme.

Making Peters’ Predictions True

There are some new faces on the Chicago Bears’ offensive front entering the 2022 campaign. GM Ryan Poles added a high-upside talent in Braxton Jones via the draft. To further supplement the offensive line, Poles signed veteran Lucas Patrick. These additions won’t solve all the Bears’ issues up front, but they should give Justin Fields a better chance to succeed.

With another year of development, Fields could wow the free agency market to attract significant names to Chicago in 2023. The Bears should have around $90 million in cap space to provide their QB of the future with the offensive protection and weapons he deserves.
