The Chicago Fire seek their third straight win when they visit the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday at BC Place in Vancouver.

The Fire (6-5-10) defeated the Seattle Sounders 1-0 last Saturday and Toronto FC 2-0 last Wednesday. Chicago goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina, who is only 19, has posted consecutive clean sheets, bringing his total to nine this season. It is only the second time this season the Fire have won consecutive matches.

Chicago coach Ezra Hendrickson said 18-year-old forward Jhon Duran (ankle) will return after sitting out against Seattle. Gaston Gimenez (hamstring), however, will not be available.

The Whitecaps (7-5-9) have scored at least one goal during their three-match winless streak (0-1-2). Wingback Julian Gressel could make his debut for Vancouver after being acquired from D.C. United last Friday. The German international has scored 19 goals in 171 regular-season appearances, but is more known as a setup man. His 58 regular-season assists since 2017 are the second most in the league during that period.

The Fire could catch the Whitecaps looking ahead to their Canadian Championship Final against Toronto FC on Tuesday at BC Place. Despite Vancouver being a fringe playoff team and needing points, coach Vanni Sartini could rest some players for the Canadian Championship Final.

Saturday’s match will mark two years since the two clubs last met at the MLS is Back tournament in Orlando, a 2-0 Chicago loss to Vancouver. The Fire are 0-4 all-time at Vancouver, including a 3-2 loss in their last visit in July 2018.

“We are going into this game with a bit of momentum after our last two games, one being against a Cascadia team,” Hendrickson said. “So you know, we are just going to go there, and we know we have to pick up points on the road and we are going to go there and try to get the three points.”
