The Chicago Cubs return for the second half of their season when they visit the Philadelphia Phillies for a three-game set starting Friday at Citizens Bank Park.

The Cubs (35-47) finished the first half of their season with a 3-2 win against the New York Mets to end a nine-game losing streak. The main focus for Chicago in the second half will be how its players perform prior to the MLB Trade Deadline, which is Aug. 2. All-Star catcher Willson Contreras and outfielder Ian Happ will have the highest value for Cubs general manager Carter Hawkins to maximize a return on.

The Phillies (49-43) entered the All-Star break with a three-game road sweep of the Miami Marlins. Philadelphia holds a slight edge on the St. Louis Cardinals and San Francisco Giants for the third NL wild-card spot. This series could help the Phillies see if they should pursue trade acquisitions to help their playoff push.
