The Chicago White Sox open the second half of the season Friday against the Cleveland Guardians. Tony La Russa has submitted his lineup card for the series opener, and there’s a mix of good and bad news. Yasmani Grandal and Eloy Jimenez are back in the mix while Luis Robert remains sidelined.
Grandal has been out of action since June 12 due to lower back spasms. After rehabbing at Double-A Birmingham and Triple-A Charlotte over the past few weeks, he returns to the White Sox to catch and bat fifth in the series opener.
Jimenez missed the White Sox’s last four games before the All-Star break due to tightness in his right leg. That’s the same leg he required surgery on earlier this season, which kept him out for most of the first half. Seeing Eloy Jimenez back in the lineup is a positive development for the South Siders.
On the other hand, Robert’s absence raises concern. The dynamic centerfielder missed the club’s last two games of the first half. On July 15, Robert exited a game against the Minnesota Twins after the first inning due to lightheadedness.
Now, the Chicago White Sox have placed Luis Robert on the injured list as his symptoms are still lingering. Yasmani Grandal has been activated from the IL as the corresponding move.
