Forced to hustle out of town after a Friday night victory over the Dallas Wings, the Chicago Sky head to New York to take on a struggling Liberty squad.
The Saturday night matchup will feature the battle of the streaks as the Sky have won their last six and the Liberty are riding a five-game losing streak. Most recently, New York suffered 78-69 defeat at the hands of the Washington Mystics on Thursday.
The Sky have owned the Liberty in the last four head-to-head meetings. The last time New York beat the Chicago was back in May 2021.
Michaela Onyenwere is questionable for the Liberty while former Sky guard Betnijah Laney remains sidelined. Head coach Sandy Brondello says she hopes to have Onyenwere back for Saturday.
On the Chicago injury front, there is no update on Courtney Vandersloot, who has been dealing with a concussion since July 14. While the stat sheet shows that the team has been fine without her, the play on the court indicates they will need her presence and play down the stretch. For now, Julie Allemand will make her fourth start of the season.
Allemand posted a season-high 13 points in Friday’s win over the Wings. She has been a solid substitute during Vandersloot’s recovery. The Belgium native has been dishing out 5.3 assists per game during her three-game stretch as a starter.
