The Chicago White Sox dropped the opener of a three-game series against the Oakland A’s at home on Friday night. The A’s belted three home runs and starting pitcher James Kapriellian was effective. The White Sox had a couple of offensive spurts, but ultimately fell 7-3.
The night got off to a promising start in the first inning. The Pale Hose opened the scoring when AJ Pollock doubled to left, then scored on a single to right field by Jose Abreu. Both hits came with two outs in the frame.
Tough Night For Lance Lynn
Lance Lynn got the ball for the White Sox. He was effective for most of his start but made a few crucial mistakes and endured some misfortune. The first gaffe was from Jose Abreu, who dropped a routine throw from Yoan Moncada that allowed Ramon Laureano to reach base in the second inning. Elvis Andrus followed with a single and Stephen Piscotty capped off the rally with a three-run homer. Lynn left a cutter out of the plate and Piscotty took advantage.
Seth Brown and Andrus added solo home runs in the sixth to end Lynn’s night. The veteran right-hander tossed 5.2 allowing five runs (four earned) on five hits. He fanned eight and walked none. The killer of his outing was the three-run homer in the second inning.
Josh Harrison cut the deficit to two with a two-run shot in the seventh. Those were the last runs the Sox offense could muster. Seth Brown added his second homer in the eighth to put Oakland ahead by three. Another insurance run crossed home for Oakland on a sacrifice bunt in the ninth.
Notes
Luis Robert, who began a rehab assignment Thursday, was out of the Charlotte Knights’ lineup Friday due to cold symptoms.
Tim Anderson and Tony La Russa were ejected from the game in the seventh inning.
Prior to the contest, the White Sox recalled Davis Martin to replace Reynaldo Lopez, who is on the injured list due to a lower back strain.
