The Chicago White Sox announced Monday that right-handed pitcher Vince Velasquez will begin a rehab assignment. The 30-year-old will head to Triple-A Charlotte to work his way toward a return to the MLB club.

Velasquez last appeared in a White Sox game on July 5 against the Minnesota Twins. The club placed him on the 15-day injured list the next day due to a blister on his right index finger.

On the season, Velasquez owns a 5.31 ERA with 42 strikeouts across 46.2 innings. The righty began the season filling a rotation spot and made eight starts during Lance Lynn’s absence. Velasquez has since shifted to a bullpen role for the Chicago White Sox.

Vince Velasquez will join infielder Jake Burger, who is also on a rehab assignment, at Triple-A Charlotte. The Knights have an off day Monday before opening a six-game home series against the Gwinnett Stripers.
