The Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals will play a two-game series June 24-25, 2023 at London Stadium, MLB and MLB Players Association announced Thursday.
The NL Central Division rivals were scheduled to play two games against each other June 13-14, 2020, in London. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, MLB canceled the series.
The Chicago Cubs and Cardinals have each played international regular-season games before. Chicago split a two-game set against the New York Mets (5-3 win, 5-1 loss) to open the 2000 season in Tokyo, Japan. The Cubs also won a three-game series against the Montreal Expos (4-3 loss, 8-4 and 3-2 wins) in San Juan Puerto Rico in 2003. The Cardinals split a two-game set against the Cincinnati Reds (5-2 loss, 9-5 win) in Monterrey, Mexico, in 2019.
The MLB London Series started in 2019 when the New York Yankees defeated the Boston Red Sox 17-13 and 12-8. In 2022, the MLB and the city of London renewed an agreement for games in 2023, 2024, and 2026. The teams have yet to be announced for the series in 2024 and 2026.
The 2019 games drew 59,659 and 59,059 fans at London Stadium, the home of the Premier League’s West Ham United.
The 2023 London Series is part of the MLB WORLD TOUR, which will have 24 regular-season games and 16 exhibition games played outside of North America.
