Although the Chicago Cubs won 4-0 on Saturday against the Miami Marlins, it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows for the Cubbies. In the victory, rookie sensation Christopher Morel left the game early with reported hamstring tightness. As of now, he is listed as day-to-day going forward.

Although Morel was removed from Saturday’s game, there is hope that the removal is only precautionary. A young player who needs to develop, such as Morel, would be a brutal loss for any extended period of time. However, if he only misses a few games, then his development will continue on course.

This season, Morel is playing a major role for the Cubs. Although on a current cold streak despite getting a hit on Saturday, the rookie is still hitting the ball hard. Unfortunately, the game of baseball is often about luck and Morel is on the wrong side of it at the moment.

For the season, Morel has appeared in 67 games. In that time, he is slashing .259/.331/.450 with nine home runs and 29 RBI. In addition, he has 13 doubles and four triples. Although Morel’s current cold streak has dragged his numbers down, he’s been a major part of the Cubs’ offense since being called up. Ideally, his absence won’t be too long.
