Report: Bulls, Nikola Vucevic Will Talk Contract Extension This Fall

Vucevic, who was traded to the Bulls in March 2021, is otherwise set to enter free agency next summer.

Joe Cowley was the bearer of bad news for Nikola Vucevic critics Saturday. According to the Chicago Sun-Times reporter, both Vucevic and the Chicago Bulls want to extend their relationship past next season. That mutual interest will manifest in negotiations on an extension for Vucevic, who is entering the last year of a four-year, $100 million deal, this fall.

Vucevic has averaged 18.6 points, 11.1 rebounds, and 3.4 assists since he was traded to the Bulls in March 2021.

But, to the chagrin of Chicago Bulls fans, he shot 31.4% from deep last season — including just 31.8% on those where defenders were no closer than four feet away from him.

As it stands, Nikola Vucevic is set to join a free-agent pool that includes Al Horford, Myles Turner, and Jakob Poeltl. And while each player offers an intriguing skillset, neither Horford, Turner, nor Poeltl are marked upgrades over Vucevic.

By being open to the idea of extending the 31-year-old center, Arturas Karnisovas and Marc Eversley appear to know that as well.
