One of the biggest storylines surrounding the Chicago Bears in 2021 was the drama between leading receiver Allen Robinson and former head coach Matt Nagy. Playing under the franchise tag and needing a new contract, Robinson and his agent played games with the front office all year. With Nagy now out of the picture, there was hope that Robinson may stay with a new regime. But according to Chris Emma of 670 the Score, Robinson has his sights set elsewhere.
Robinson becomes a free agent in March. The wideout struggled to stay healthy throughout the 2021 season and saw his numbers drop to 38 receptions for 410 yards. Beyond the injury issues, reports of tension between Robinson and Matt Nagy came to light. Regardless of that friction, the Bears tried to get an extension done with Robinson and his agent in September but nothing came to fruition.
While Allen Robinson may or may not be part of new GM Ryan Poles' plan, the Bears still have options at the top wide receiver spot. Michael Gallup and DJ Chark are both available in free agency. This potential opening will surely be a top priority for the Bears with or without Robinson.
A developing Justin Fields needs playmaking weapons around him. The franchise quarterback endured a tumultuous rookie season, but new leadership above him and fresh faces flanking him on the field should put Fields in a better position to succeed.
