Akiem Hicks' future with the Chicago Bears was already in doubt. Hicks is set to become a free agent this offseason, so the Bears could re-sign him if they feel so inclined. However, an incident during Chicago's Week 17 win over the New York Giants makes a potential reunion more doubtful than it already was. According to a report from Adam Jahns of The Athletic, Akiem Hicks fought with Bears' coaches during the game.

Furthermore, Hicks was absent from Halas Hall all week leading up to the final game of the season in Minnesota. Alas, the way he potentially ends his career in Chicago is with an argument and a need for space away from the team.

The Chicago Bears-iest Way to Lose Akiem Hicks

This report is just sad, to put it lightly. Akiem Hicks is arguably one of the best free-agent signings in Chicago Bears history. The man is a literal wrecking ball on the defensive line and he enjoyed plenty of success in Chicago. Now, a burned bridge is the final chapter of his Bears' tenure.

Hicks came to Chicago in 2016, where he spent the last six years. He's played in 77 games for the Bears, recording 31 sacks and nearly 250 total tackles. He also recovered five fumbles and rushed for a one-yard touchdown in 2018.

Back in March, the Bears granted Hicks permission to seek a trade. Nothing came to fruition, but it made it abundantly clear that he was likely on his way out of Chicago. Hicks is a favorite amongst the fans and was a crucial part of the defensive line. His big presence in the middle will be sorely missed when he inevitably leaves the Bears.
