Bears fans have been saying it for a while now. Roquan Smith is one hell of a linebacker and he plays the position the way Chicago Bears history defined it. During the Bears' live press conference on Thursday, defensive coordinator Sean Desai discussed Smith and the NFL's snub of his first Pro Bowl.

Roquan Smith in 2021

In the 2021 season, Roquan Smith appeared in all 14 games thus far. He recorded 140 total tackles, 81 solo tackles, and took one interception 53 yards for a defensive touchdown. Smith has three sacks on the season as well and is generally described as a leader on the defensive side of the ball. He is a true 'Monster of the Midway' and he changes the game almost every week.

Sean Desai's Comments on Smith's Pro Bowl Snub

Sean Desai is a huge proponent of Roquan Smith and his talent at the linebacker position. He's one of the best in the league and Desai's statement speaks volumes.

Smith's tenacious effort is evident on every snap. He fights on every play and gives everything he has for the Chicago Bears. Desai put it perfectly: the fact that the NFL has not yet awarded Smith with a Pro Bowl selection truly is a travesty. The man has over 100 tackles in all of his four seasons in Chicago. He has 14 sacks and two defensive touchdowns to go with it.

The Bears are lucky to have such a highly talented player on their defense. Chicago has a rich history at the linebacker position and Roquan Smith is currently carrying that torch honorably. Hearing Sean Desai acknowledge the young linebacker's greatness and the NFL's inability to see it, let alone reward it, is a sign of a great leader in the booth.
