Bears' DT Akiem Hicks Fined For Illegal Hits
The NFL announced today that Bears' defensive tackle Akiem Hicks has been fined $15,000 for two roughing-the-passer penalties in last week's win against Atlanta.
There were many hard hits on Falcons' quarterback Matt Ryan last week and a few of them can be seen below:
This was not called roughing-the-passer, but nevertheless it was a great hit.

It's possible that this play is the one being used as a reference for the fine, however, it was not called in the game either.
There were so many plays where Matt Ryan was driven to the ground that it could be suggested that this fine was a collective decision on Hicks' performance. The timing of this is odd, however, considering many fines or suspensions occur only days after the play occurs. It has been almost a week since the Bears played Atlanta, so this leads me to the conclusion of the NFL using Hicks' fine as an example to defensive players throughout the league.
