The Chicago Bears continue to add to their laundry list of names to interview. George McCaskey has a lot on his plate now that he's "removed" Ted Phillips from football operations. According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the Bears put in a request to interview JoJo Wooden of the Los Angeles Chargers for their vacant GM job.

Who is JoJo Wooden?

JoJo Wooden is the current Director of Player Personnel for the Los Angeles Chargers. He's been with the Chargers since 2013 and he directs both the pro and college level scouting departments. He also spent 16 seasons with the New York Jets from 1997-2012. He held titles such as pro scout, assistant director of pro scouting, and eventual director of pro scouting. Wooden obviously works closely with Chargers GM Tom Telesco, who worked with Bill Polian before as a scout in Indianapolis.

George McCaskey and the Bears brought in Polian to assist them in finding their next GM and head coach. This interview could be the product of that relationship. If Polian has a connection with the Chargers GM and therefore leads to a relationship with JoJo Wooden, then this could be a best-case scenario.

Chicago's Previous GM Couldn't Evaluate Talent Properly

The Chicago Bears weren't overly effective at evaluating talent during the Ryan Pace era. In the wake of his firing, the Bears badly need leadership in the form of identifying the right players.

Looking at the Chargers roster, it's easy to see why Wooden would get an interview regardless of any personal connections. The Chargers were one missed field goal away from making the playoffs in 2021. They have a promising quarterback in Justin Herbert and a great running back in Austin Ekeler. They also have two fantastic receivers in Mike Williams and Keenan Allen.

Clearly, the Chargers are skilled at evaluating talent at both the pro and college levels. The Bears could take a page out of LA's book by hiring JoJo Wooden.
