Editor’s Note:A previous version of this article included misleading wording regarding the Chicago Bears' current position as it relates to the NFL Management Council's memo. Possible Trouble With The Roquan Smith Situation

The memo Pelissero outlined states that a person who isn't a certified agent is contacting NFL clubs about Roquan Smith. Furthermore, the memo specifically states that dealing in trade talks without written permission is tampering. Pelissero continued by quoting a specific line from the memo sent by the NFL Management Council:

So far, no team is guilty of any tampering. But if the situation continues down this path and the NFL discovers foul play, there could be more stringent discipline for any club involved, as the memo states.

He must navigate these waters with Roquan Smith, with whom he must deal directly, carefully. Avoiding bringing a colossal failure upon the Bears and the scrutiny of the loyal fan base is crucial at this juncture.
