Just when Chicago Bears fans thought it couldn't get any worse, it has. As reported by Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo, the Bears will be without Khalil Mack this week as they allow his ailing foot to heal.
Mack is a tough player and certainly wants to be on the field at all times. However, playing as a shell of himself on his injured foot is not helping anyone, especially himself. As indicated by Rapoport, the discussion around placing Mack on the IR is a possibility.
By placing Mack on the IR, he would receive four weeks of healing due to the Bears' bye week in Week 10. However, even if they keep him off the IR, it feels like we won't see the elite pass rusher until Week 11. By placing Mack on the IR, the Bears can add another player from the practice squad to the active roster.
The Bears have been decimated by injuries and COVID-19 cases so far this season. If the Bears have any hope of winning on Sunday, it feels like a lot of names that fans see as complimentary players will have to step up and take over. If not, the Bears are probably staring down the barrel of being 3-5 coming out of Week Eight.
