The Chicago Bears were hard at work early Monday morning. The team has decided against exercising the option on OT Bobby Massie's contract, per reports.

Massie, 31, joined the Bears in 2016. In his first three years, he only missed two total games and performed reasonably well.

As a result, Massie was rewarded with a four-year extension in 2019. In the past two seasons however, Massie has missed a grand total of 14 games due to injury. Now, Massie will enter free agency able to sign with any team.

For the Bears, this move will save them a significant amount of money (~$5M). However, expect the team to continue to maneuver through their tough salary cap situation via restructured contracts, cuts, and/or extensions. Fans shouldn't rule out possible trades either. Massie is the second cap casualty for the Bears. The team cut Buster Skrine early last week.
