Bears: Who Could Replace Eddie Goldman Week One?
With the release of the Chicago Bears' first injury report, many are concerned. There aren't a ton of players expected to miss any action, but one name stands out among the rest: defensive tackle Eddie Goldman.
While it shouldn't be taken as a long-term diagnosis, the Bears must be ready in case Goldman is banged up. Enter the 250th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, Khyiris Tonga.
Tonga helped anchor a top defense in all of college football last season with BYU. Not only was he tenacious in the run game, but his ability to get to the quarterback from the nose tackle position was something to behold.

In his career at BYU, Tonga racked up 130 total tackles, 16 tackles for loss, and 8.5 sacks. While many may be skeptical that he fell to the seventh round, many believe it was due to the conference he played in and perceived weight problems. Despite those factors, Tonga entered Bears camp in incredible shape and has obviously made an impression on the coaching staff. Tonga made the 53-man roster without any issue, despite an incredibly difficult cut period.
While there is no replacing a player like Eddie Goldman, Khyiris Tonga should be ready if called upon.
