Chicago Bears rookie wide receiver Dazz Newsome broke his left collarbone during team organized activities Tuesday and will have surgery Thursday, coach Matt Nagy said Wednesday.

Newsome is expected to miss about eight weeks after the surgery, which puts his return near the start of the Bears training camp July 27.

Selected in the sixth round (No. 221 overall) of the 2021 NFL Draft, Newsome (5-foot-10, 190 pounds) caught 188 passes for 2,435 yards and 18 touchdowns in 43 games during four seasons at North Carolina.

The Bears have not signed their top two picks from 2021 in quarterback Justin Fields (first round, No. 11) and offensive tackle Teven Jenkins (second round, No. 39).
