The Chicago Bears broke out with a 33-14 thumping of the New England Patriots in Week 7. Most of the postgame focus rightfully centered on Justin Fields and the defense, but we can't forget the kicker's importance. Cairo Santos, who accounted for nearly half of the Bears' points, earned NFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors for his performance.
Santos' stellar night included a perfect 4/4 on field goals and 3/3 on extra points for a total of 15 points. As a result, the 30-year-old improved to 11/11 on field goal attempts this season.
Cairo Santos is one of two NFL kickers with 10-plus attempts to have a perfect field goal percentage in 2022. Only Daniel Carlson of the Las Vegas Raiders ranks above him with an impressive 16/16 mark.
While the Chicago Bears' offense has been plagued by inconsistency to start the season, Cairo Santos is Mr. Consistent. After the Bears' kicker carousel that resulted from the double doink, Santos has stabilized the position over the last three seasons with performances like this.
That peace of mind shouldn't be overlooked, so it's nice to see the NFL acknowledge Cairo Santos with NFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors.
