The Chicago Bears are back at Soldier Field today. As the team prepared for their first padded practice in front of Bears fans, Matt Nagy addressed the media.

The fourth-year head coach provided an injury update that includes some new names and further insight on previously mentioned players. The Bears will be without four key members during practice today. Notably, Teven Jenkins won't be practicing once again. Jenkins has yet to hit the field for practice due to a lingering back issue. Robert Quinn will also sit out due to a back issue he has been dealing with since OTAs. However, he has been able to participate in interspersed practices despite the ailment.

New Injuries

Surprisingly, the Bears are holding defensive backs Artie Burns and Tashaun Gipson out of practice as well. Burns is nursing a quad injury while Gipson is dealing with a groin ailment.

Backup Plan at Left Tackle

As a result of Jenkins being unable to practice, 2021 fifth-round pick Larry Borom will take reps at left tackle.

This may feel like a risky move, but with time on the Bears' side, it's worth experimenting. Nagy had high praise for Borom sliding over to left tackle while Jenkins recovers.

Tarik Cohen Update

Nagy also provided an update on Tarik Cohen, who is working his way back from an ACL injury. Cohen landed on the PUP list late last week.

It appears Cohen is further away from returning to the field than expected. However, the Bears have enough depth at running back to weather the storm without Cohen for the time being.

New Development: Tackle Depth Gets Even Thinner

In a late development, it seems the Bears are especially thin at both tackle spots. The team was already without Germain Ifedi (hip flexor) and Teven Jenkins (back). Now it appears backup tackle Elijah Wilkinson is sidelined as well.

Things could get pretty ugly at tackle if Borom and Lachavious Simmons are going to be the starters. However, there's no need to panic just yet. The team has yet to play a preseason game and we're roughly a month and change away from Week 1 of the regular season. Nonetheless, Ryan Pace may want to consider bringing in some help at the position.
