Darnell Mooney was recently on Red Line Radio talking about life, the Chicago Bears, and the offseason. Mooney briefly touched on training with Justin Fields in the offseason, away from Halas Hall. He will likely be traveling with Fields to Atlanta or Florida for more workouts. He also talked about the Bears' new coaching regime and how different it is from the last.
Darnell Mooney On New Bears Head Coach Matt Eberflus
When asked about the new Chicago Bears head coach, Matt Eberflus, Darnell Mooney described the difference as night and day from the old regime.
"Everyone knows what to do and where to go. It's more organized. [Coach Eberflus] is a chill guy. He's a coach's coach, a true head coach, and makes sure everyone is organized."

Mooney praised Coach Eberflus and enjoys that he lets offensive coordinator, Luke Getsy, "do his thing". When talking about the new offense, Mooney said he feels like the new system benefits the offense more than the old one did.
That isn't hard to do considering Matt Nagy's offense was an absolute dumpster fire and a mess. But having a legitimate offensive coordinator in Luke Getsy should increase the overall offensive production simply because he knows how.
Will Mooney Have A Big Third Year In The NFL?
Mooney briefly discussed his mindset in college and how in his first year, he didn't want to step on anyone's toes. In his second year, he made a few plays but by his junior season, he went crazy.
That's what Darnell Mooney is expecting in his third season with the Chicago Bears: a big year. Since he feels like the wide receiver room is his, now that he's WR1, we fans can definitely expect great things from him this year.
After building a rapport with Justin Fields and continuing to work this offseason, the Chicago Bears have a true pair in their top-two offensive weapons.
Matt Nagy's Time With The Chicago Bears Ended Bad
When Mooney was asked about the final few weeks under the tutelage of Matt Nagy, he acknowledged that the locker room was getting sour.
"Let's get this over with and fast forward to January... It's hard to have a good mindset when you keep losing like that every week."

We can all appreciate Mooney's honesty here because we could see it every week. The Bears weren't good under Matt Nagy's leadership and the facade they placated us with was maddening.
Will the Chicago Bears win in 2022? Probably not. But at least there is hope for the future and it appears that Matt Eberflus actually knows how to be a head coach, not just an offensive play designer.
