The Chicago Bears hired a new running backs coach: David Walker. He has several years of coaching experience in the NFL and spent most of his time with the Indianapolis Colts.

David Walker Experience

David Walker spent four seasons as the Colts' running backs coach from 2011 to 2014. During the 2014 season, the Colts averaged slightly over 100 rushing yards per game but that number is a bit skewed. There were several outliers that led to this. In Week 11 against the New England Patriots, they netted only 19 rushing yards, and in Week 16, against Dallas, they only managed one yard of total rushing offense.

The counters to those low totals came in Week 7 against the Bengals when they notched 171 rushing yards and Week 12 against Jacksonville when they rushed for 175 yards. But what do these specifics mean? It simply means there was an inconsistency throughout those four specific games. The rest of the season for the Colts was closer to the median and the stories within those games aren't really told by rushing numbers.

Walker then spent the 2016 season through the 2018 season with the Detroit Lions. The last time the Lions made the postseason was 2016 and during that season, they rushed for over 100 yards only three times. David Walker did work with current Bears defensive coordinator Alan Williams in his time with Detroit.
