Between two of the final holidays of the year, ESPN had heartbreaking news to report. After battling colon cancer, Chicago Bears reporter Jeff Dickerson lost his battle with the disease at the age of 44.
As ESPN's Adam Schefter indicated above, Dickerson lost his wife, Caitlin, to cancer two years ago. At the time, Jeff Dickerson considered his wife an inspiration for not letting cancer dictate her life. Two years later, Dickerson sadly lost his battle with the terrible disease as well.
Jeff Dickerson was a staple in the Chicago sports market for two decades. He is well remembered by a number of sports figures, past and present, in Chicago. Dickerson left his mark on the area with his "straight shooter" journalism as indicated by former Chicago Bears kicker Robbie Gould.
We are truly heartbroken for Dickerson's 11-year-old son, Parker, who has now lost both of his parents to cancer. In addition to Parker, Jeff Dickerson is survived by his parents, George and Sandy Dickerson.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all of Jeff's friends and family.
